Trust & methodology

How we edit — and why you can trust it

Our editorial methodology, confidentiality commitments and the policies behind our 100% human editing guarantee.

Editor expertise & specialisation

Every document at SpringEdit is matched to an editor with verifiable credentials in the relevant field. Our team holds PhDs from Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial, Durham and Edinburgh, and includes former commissioning editors from Cambridge University Press, Routledge, Wiley and Penguin Random House.

Average editor experience exceeds 15 years. PhD theses are handled exclusively by editors with doctoral-level training in the discipline. Journal manuscripts are matched by sub-field, not generic "academic editor".

Our four-stage editorial methodology

  1. Manuscript triage. A senior editor reads your document personally before any quote is issued. We confirm scope, depth, ETA and fixed price by email — no auto-generated estimates.
  2. Subject-matched editing. Your document is assigned to a specialist editor in your field. Tracked changes plus margin comments are the standard deliverable.
  3. Senior review. A second senior editor reviews the edited file for consistency, missed issues and house-style alignment.
  4. Summary memo & certificate. Every job ships with a short structural feedback memo and a signed certificate detailing scope of work — useful for university disclosure requirements.

100% human editing — verified, not advertised

Every word we deliver is read and edited by a qualified human editor. Your document is never fed to a language model — not for editing, not for "assistance", not for training. This is a written policy, not a marketing slogan.

How we evidence it:

  • Named editors on every job, signing the proofreading certificate.
  • Tracked changes you can audit line by line.
  • Margin comments explaining each edit in a human voice.
  • No content from your document is uploaded to third-party LLM services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.).
  • Editor contracts explicitly prohibit AI rewriting tools (Grammarly Premium "rewrite", QuillBot, ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot).

This is increasingly important under UK university and major-journal integrity policies, which now distinguish between AI-assisted writing and human professional proofreading.

Confidentiality & data handling

Uploads are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. Documents are accessible only to the assigned editor and senior reviewer.

  • NDAs available on request for commercially sensitive manuscripts.
  • Files are deleted from our systems within 90 days of delivery on request.
  • Your work is never used as a portfolio sample, training data, or marketing material without explicit written consent.
  • UK GDPR compliant; data controller registered in the United Kingdom.
